About the artist

Tsuyoshi Yoshida who’s known as Go Mishima (1924-1988) was a prominent Japanese homoerotic fetish artist known for his illustrations of hyper masculine men with yakuza-inspired tattoos. He played a pivotal role in the early wave of contemporary gay artists in Japan, alongside other notable figures. Mishima’s work was influenced by the aesthetics of the yakuza and the art of Tom of Finland. His art appeared in various gay magazines, and he founded his own magazine, Sabu, in 1974, which featured explicitly pornographic images of masculine men. Mishima passed away leaving a lasting impact on the world of homoerotic art.
