About the artist

Baba Kashio was a Tokyo-born printmaker active in the mid- to late 20th century. He worked primarily in lithography and was a member of both the Shunyōkai artists’ association and the Japan Print Association. His works often depict whimsical yet surreal worlds, with motifs of circuses, amusement parks, and theatrical settings. While colorful and playful on the surface, many compositions carry a deeper satirical or dreamlike atmosphere.
