Woodblock print

About the artist

Ryota Saito, born 1991.

When you see his work, you can hardly understand that this is a woodblock print. It looks more like an etching work, with all the fine lines.

Generally woodblock designers/carvers use vertical cutting wood for carving the block,
Vertical cutting wood is soft and easy to carve. (you cut parallel to the nerf of the wood.
But Mr.Saito uses `round slices of wood`, this wood is very hard (high density) You cut on top of the nerf. This way he can carve very precise.
